Headline ticket sales and attendance

Live Nation’s annual report gives the broadest view of ticketing volume. It reported 331 million fee-bearing tickets sold in 2024, compared with 329 million in 2023. The same report lists 280,862 fee-bearing tickets for 2022. The 2022 figure is presented exactly as reported and is not treated here as independently verified or reconciled with the later annual totals.

The company’s concerts operation reported 151 million fans in 2024. Live Nation’s annual report gives a more precise total of 151,049 thousand estimated fans across concerts, or 151.049 million when expressed in millions. It also lists 54,687 thousand estimated events in concerts, while the 4Q24 earnings release describes the activity as more than 50,000 Live Nation events.

These figures describe different measures. Fee-bearing tickets are ticketing transactions, while fans are attendance reported for the concerts operation. Events count performances or other concert events. They should not be added together or treated as interchangeable measures of the same audience.

Live Nation’s 2024 ticketing gross transaction value was $34.7 billion, according to the annual report. Ticketing revenue was $2.99 billion in the annual report and $3.0 billion on a rounded basis in the 4Q24 earnings release. The two revenue figures are the same annual measure at different levels of precision.

Live Nation’s 2024 ticketing business

Ticketing was one part of a larger live-music business. Live Nation reported $23.2 billion in consolidated revenue for 2024, $824.5 million in consolidated operating income, and $2.15 billion in consolidated adjusted operating income. Within the concerts segment, revenue was $19.0 billion, adjusted operating income was $530 million, and the adjusted operating income margin was 2.8%, according to the 4Q24 earnings release.

The annual report lists $1.1 billion in ticketing adjusted operating income. It also lists $1.2 billion in sponsorship and advertising revenue and $764 million in sponsorship and advertising adjusted operating income. These amounts show why ticket sales alone do not represent the full set of commercial activities around concerts.

Live Nation signed 22.8 million net new tickets in 2024. About 14.3 million came from clients outside North America, described in the annual report as roughly 60% of the total. The 4Q24 earnings release presents the related Ticketmaster figure as 23 million net new enterprise tickets, with two-thirds from international markets. The rounded figures and slightly different labels should be read as source-specific reporting rather than combined totals.

Ticketmaster’s fourth-quarter 2024 revenue was $841.1 million, up 14% year over year. Its fourth-quarter adjusted operating income was $311 million, up 32% year over year. Those quarterly figures belong to Ticketmaster’s Q4 reporting context and should not be substituted for Live Nation’s full-year ticketing revenue.

North America and international concert activity

Live Nation’s annual report separates estimated concert activity geographically. North America generated 36,673 thousand estimated events in 2024 and drew 86,563 thousand estimated fans. International concerts generated 18,014 thousand estimated events and drew 64,486 thousand estimated fans.

2024 concert measureNorth AmericaInternational
Estimated events36,673 thousand18,014 thousand
Estimated fans86,563 thousand64,486 thousand

The regional totals add to the reported 54,687 thousand estimated events and 151,049 thousand estimated fans. The geography matters when interpreting ticket-market scale: North America had more estimated events and fans in this dataset, while international markets supplied a large share of new enterprise ticket signings.

By mid-April 2024, approximately 7 million net new enterprise tickets had been signed, with 70% from international markets. By mid-July, the cumulative figure was around 17 million, with two-thirds from international markets. In the full-year 4Q24 release, the figure was 23 million for Ticketmaster, again with two-thirds from international markets.

How the year developed by quarter

Live Nation’s quarterly results show ticket activity accumulating through 2024. In the first quarter, the company sold 77 million fee-bearing tickets and reported 23 million fans, up 21% year over year. Q1 revenue was $3.8 billion and adjusted operating income was $367 million. Sponsorship revenue was up 24%, described as the highest first quarter ever in the Q1 results. Food and beverage spending at U.S. theaters and clubs rose 10%.

By mid-April, year-to-date ticket sales were 112 million, up 4%. That measurement is a mid-April checkpoint, not a full-quarter or full-year total.

In the second quarter results, Live Nation reported 39 million fans at concerts globally and approximately 15,000 Live Nation concerts. Fee-bearing tickets sold year to date reached 183 million, up 3%, while year-to-date revenue was about $6.0 billion. Venue Nation hosted 24 million fans year to date, up 10%. Amphitheater attendance was up approximately 40% year over year, and theater and club attendance was up 15% year over year.

By mid-July, year-to-date concert ticket sales were 118 million. The company had signed around 17 million net new enterprise tickets, with two-thirds from international markets. The mid-July ticket figure is a separate checkpoint from the Q2 year-to-date figure and is retained with its stated measurement timing.

The Q3 results reported $694 million in revenue and $236 million in adjusted operating income in the highlighted segment context. October transacted ticket sales were up 15% across all ticket volume and up 23% for concert events including Live Nation shows. By Q3, Live Nation had sold 238 million fee-bearing tickets, representing an 8% compound annual growth rate since 2019.

Top-tour ticket prices and scale

Pollstar’s 2024 year-end analysis focuses on the top 100 worldwide tours, a narrower group than the full Live Nation ticketing operation. Those tours sold 69,906,367 tickets, down 0.27% from 2023, while gross revenue reached $9.5 billion, up 3.62% year over year.

The average ticket price for the top 100 was $135.92, up 3.9% from 2023. The tours averaged 17,075 tickets sold per show, down 5.68% year over year, and averaged $2,320,862 gross per show. The combination of slightly fewer tickets and higher average price is a useful distinction: ticket volume and gross revenue did not move in the same direction.

These Pollstar averages are estimates or reported industry analysis for the listed top-tour group, not a universal average for every concert ticket. They also should not be compared directly with Live Nation’s gross transaction value without accounting for the different populations and definitions.

Artist and tour comparisons

Pollstar estimated that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour grossed more than $2.2 billion and sold 10 million tickets over 149 shows. The wording “more than” applies to the gross figure, while the ticket and show counts are stated as 10 million and 149.

Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour had more than $1.14 billion in grosses and over 10.3 million tickets sold. Both figures are expressed as thresholds in Pollstar’s 2024 year-end analysis.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band grossed $251.3 million from 1.7 million sold tickets. Zach Bryan grossed $199.2 million from 1.05 million tickets sold across 49 concerts. Metallica grossed $179.4 million from 1.5 million tickets at 24 concerts.

The artist figures illustrate how tour scale can differ. Zach Bryan’s result includes a stated concert count, while Metallica’s includes 24 concerts; the other entries in this comparison do not include a show count in the reported facts. Pollstar is the source for each of these tour measurements, and the dates and definitions follow its 2024 year-end analysis.
